Vejer de la Frontera

Vejer de la Frontera

Vejer de la Frontera is a classic white village on a hilltop, pueblo blanco, and was officially declared an historic artistic monument of national importance in 1978. It is 10 kms inland, perched high above the steep gorge of the River Barbate with views towards the Atlantic Ocean, the Continent of Africa and the Alconocales National Park.

Vejer de la Frontera is a charming village with many beautiful sights to see. The Old Town, Casco Antiguo, is picturesque with a maze of narrow cobbled streets lined by dazzling white-washed houses that are centred around hidden patios blooming with flowers. Many houses have roof terraces, often with stunning panoramic views. The Plaza de Espana is undoubtedly one of the prettiest village squares in Spain with palm trees and an oranate ceramic fountain. Its bars and restaurants make it a popular meeting place. Vejer has a Moorish castle and a Gothic church and the 15th century walls to the Old Town still stand today.

If you are looking to buy property in Vejer, expect to mainly find large traditional patio houses still intact or apartments within patio houses. In the New Town there are a number of new housing developments that have been tastefully designed and built to blend in with the architectural style of the Old Town. There are also some countryside and coastal opportunities around Vejer.

Vejer is a 45 minute drive away from Jerez airport, a 60 minute drive from Gibraltar airport, a 90 minute drive away from Seville airport and just over 2 hours from Malaga airport.

One of the most unexpected thrills of Vejer de la Frontera for a first time visitor is the huge number of eateries hidden away in the beautiful Pueblo Blanco. Discover them here!
