Eating in Medina Sidonia

For a trip out for lunch or dinner from Vejer there are two excellent restaurants just before Medina Sidonia at the bottom of the hill just before the steep climb up to Medina old town, definitely worth a visit in the morning and have a beer or a coffee in the main square before proceeding down the hill to La Duquesa and Cuatro Caminos within 300 metres of each other. Both with outside tables. Cuatro Caminos is family run and is full of local Spanish who come for typical Andaluz cusine. The welcome is very friendly, service efficient and there is a vast array of local produce including “Pollo de Campo” (free-range chicken in sauce) and many other well-prepared specialities.Try the fish soup and gazpacho and if you have room, some delicious homemade desserts. There is also a large selection of “Riojas” and the prices for everything very reasonable. We have never had anything other than good experiences here. La Duquesa also serves excellent food-a touch more expensive and formal than “Caminos” but again, very well prepared local food. A very well well-run restaurant with a busy bar that serves a selection of tapas if you just want a snack.Try a glass of “manzanilla”, a cross between sherry and dry white wine, served very chilled with your tapas. Two very good restaurants. 20 mins from Vejer.
