Diary of an Estate Agent in Vejer

Cycling in and around Vejer de la Frontera

If you are on holiday then perhaps you have eaten or drunk too much. A good bike ride is a healthy way of
getting to feel better again. You can hire mountain and road bikes from Francisco’s bike shop in the new town, Avda de Andalucia see www.bicicletasfrancisco.com/
Apart from hiring out bikes they can give you maps and advice on routes or you can join a group.
The Vejer bike club meets here regularly. There are various trails to take and you can go to the coast (on a mountain bike) virtually without seeing a car.The only unfortunate thing is the climb back to the town-unavoidable-save plenty of energy and water for the last climb. Cycle out of town, mainly downhill to the coast and then have a swim followed by a beach lunch at El Palmar, Los Canos de Meca or Zahora. After a swim and lunch begin your peddle back…..
An hour off-road and an hour and a quarter back to Vejer, if you are of average fitness. Stop at Bar Siglo in the new town, Avda San Miguel, and have a beer and a well earned rest after “climbing” back up to the town. There is a path between Los Canos and Barbate that runs downhill in a natural park with breathtaking views of the coastline.
On a road bike you can try the route Vejer-Medina-Alcala-Benalup-Vejer. You will have definitely earned your beer and lunch after that!
